Flooding is lingering from yesterday's storm, especially in Westchester and Rockland counties near I-287 that picked up an average of 3-5 inches of rain over a six-hour window yesterday from around 3-9 p.m.
If you see blocked off roads, please do not attempt to drive through. Those barricades are there for a reason. We will continue to see any lingering flooding recede through the morning. Today is going to be a mostly dry day, which will help.
Yesterday's flooding brings back memoriesfrom early July 2023. Those rain amounts back then were generally higher than yesterday, but it was bad enough. The areas in Rockland and Westchester counties that got hit hardest yesterday had around 3-5 inches on average - compared to 6-8 inches of rain on average during the July 2023 flooding.
After today, potentially dangerous heat arrives tomorrow through Friday. Each day will come with an isolated shower or thunderstorm chance, but the best chance to get a couple of those in the afternoon or evening will be Thursday and Friday.
