Memorial Day weekend will look a little different this year at Jones Beach.
Instead of the traditional air show, Long Islanders can expect watch a drone show light up the skies.
The display will look similar to the 9/11 drone show that was held in Bethpage last year, according to state park officials.
The 20-minute program will be held at 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, and will include 1,000 drones.
George Gorman, Long Island Regional Director of NYS Parks tells News 12 “We wanted to do something really special for Memorial Day weekend that the public would thoroughly enjoy.”
Governor Kathy Hochul’s office is presenting the display as part of a series of events throughout the year at Long Island state parks to commemorate America’s founding.
The annual FourLeaf Air Show at Jones Beach was moved to July 5 and 6 to mark the nation's 250th anniversary.
