A driver was hospitalized after crashing into a telephone pole Thursday afternoon in Putnam County, according to officials.

Putnam Valley firefighters responded to the scene on Sunset Hill Road around 4 p.m.

They say the driver slammed into the pole and then briefly continued traveling before stopping near Putnam County Market.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the crash and the condition of the driver remains unclear.
