One person was hospitalized after a crash involving a car and a FedEx box truck in Woodbridge.
The incident happened Wednesday morning in the area of Homestead and Esse avenues. According to Woodbridge firefighters, crews from Avenel, Port Reading and Woodbridge Township responded to the location after receiving reports of a car pinned under a box truck.
When firefighters arrived, they also learned that one of the saddle tanks on the truck ruptured, causing diesel fuel to leak onto the roadway. Along with a Union County hazmat team, first responders worked to extricate the driver and dislodge the vehicle from underneath the truck.
“Crews worked together to lift the box truck with air bags and winch the car free before completing the extrication of the driver,” firefighters said in a post on social media.
The driver of the vehicle was removed and transported to a hospital. The driver’s current condition is unknown.
The crash remains under investigation.
