A driver died after police found him outside an overturned vehicle and trapped underneath it following a single-vehicle crash in Newark Saturday night, according to city officials.

Newark police responded to McCarter Highway and Chester Avenue around 9:11 p.m., according to Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda.

Miranda said officers found the driver, a man, outside the vehicle and trapped underneath it. He was pronounced dead at 9:37 p.m.

Authorities did not release the driver's identity or provide additional details about what led to the crash.
