The driver accused of causing a high-speed crash that critically injured a Suffolk County police officer earlier this month pleaded not guilty to charges in the case.
Police said Cody Fisher, 29, was driving high on drugs and speeding at more than 100 mph when he flew past Suffolk County police Officer Brendon Gallagher, 30, near Exit 55 on the Long Island Expressway on Jan. 5 around 6 p.m.
Fisher faces a number of charges, including assault on a police officer, assault, vehicular assault, unlawful fleeing a police officer and speeding. Fisher's bail remains the same - $1 million cash, $2 million bond.
Gallagher attempted to pull Fisher over, but investigators said Fisher sped up, lost control of his car and side-swiped the police cruiser - pushing it off the road.
Gallagher hit a tree and flipped over. Police said he was trapped for at least 30 minutes and first responders had to pull him from the wreckage.
The officer suffered life-threatening injuries but his condition was upgraded earlier this week from "serious" to "fair." He was taken off of a ventilator on Monday.
Gallagher was previously injured on the job during a stabbing in 2022.
Fisher previously pleaded not guilty to the initial charges against him including assault, driving while ability impaired and reckless driving.
