DOT: Low-income neighborhoods and neighborhoods of color saw biggest decline in traffic deaths over the past decade
Low-income neighborhoods saw a 34% drop in pedestrian deaths and neighborhoods of color saw a 26% drop in all traffic deaths since Vision Zero was launched more than a decade ago.

Predominantly lower income neighborhoods and those of color are seeing the biggest decline in traffic deaths over the past decade, according to the New York City Department of Transportation.
The city's DOT says since Vision Zero launched more than a decade ago, low-income neighborhoods saw a 34% drop in pedestrian deaths and neighborhoods of color saw a 26% drop in all traffic deaths.
Last year in Soundview, the DOT added a pedestrian space and islands, and protected bike lanes.
The DOT says there are now over four miles of protected bike lanes that were built in Soundview in the last four years.
Neighbors say they've been helpful as they drive through the area.
