Officials in Sussex County are asking for help locating the person responsible for "illegally dumping" multiple dogs in three separate towns. In a post on Facebook, the Wantage Township Animal Shelter said the dogs were abandoned in Stillwater, Wantage and Lafayette. "These Chihuahua mixes were physically thrown from cages and abandoned at these locations. At this time, we do not have answers about who is responsible," the shelter said. Some of the dogs were safely contained, but others are still on the loose. Shelter workers have placed traps in the area to "bring them to safety." Several of the dogs that were already contained were scared and injured. The shelter said they are currently being treated by a veterinarian and reminded people not to try to chase them. The Wantage shelter said they are now trying to track down the person responsible for abandoning the dogs.
