The New Jersey Devils will honor military members and veterans Thursday during their 16th annual Military Appreciation Night at Prudential Center in Newark.
Bob Walsh, a 100-year-old World War II veteran from Far Hills who served in the Marine Corps, will participate in a ceremonial puck drop before the Devils face the St. Louis Blues at 7 p.m.
The first 9,000 fans in attendance will receive a military cap courtesy of Prudential Financial.
Staff Sgt. Hallie Koches, a Frenchtown native and vocalist with the 78th Army Band, will perform the national anthem. A Marine Corps color guard from Red Bank will present the colors.
Players will arrive accompanied by service dogs from Paws of War, an organization that supports veterans, active military members and first responders.
The evening will also include recognition of airmen from the 621st Contingency Response Wing stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
Proceeds from a 50/50 raffle and sales of mystery player-signed military patches will benefit Operation Sisterhood at YWCA Northern New Jersey, which supports women veterans.
Prudential is providing 100 complimentary tickets to active military personnel and veterans. Military members and veterans with identification will also receive a 10% discount at Devils Den team stores during the game.
