Devils name ex-Florida Panthers executive as new general manager
The New Jersey Devils have named former Florida Panthers executive Sunny Mehta as the team’s newest general manager.
The announcement was made Thursday evening and comes less than two weeks after the team parted ways with its previous general manager, Tom Fitzgerald.
Mehta joined the Panthers’ organization in 2020 and has served as assistant general manager and head of analytics for the last three years.
"I'm thrilled to welcome Sunny and his wife, Nicole, back home to New Jersey,” Devils’ managing partner David Blitzer wrote in a statement. “Sunny’s familiarity with our organization and experience with a two-time Stanley Cup-winning team are characteristics that will serve as a foundation for future success.”
Mehta, 48, was raised in Wyckoff and said he grew up watching Devils’ practices in Totowa.
He previously served as the director of hockey analytics for the Devils from 2014 to 2018.
