Orange County officials are reminding residents to stay safe as deer and bear hunting season begins in New York.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office is advising hunters to wear orange and be aware of their surroundings.

Officers also tell neighbors not to be alarmed if they hear gunfire in wooded areas.

Families and hikers should stay visible and stick to marked trails when outside, according to the sheriff's office.
