The 12 geese that were found dead at Carroll Park in Thornwood died as a result of bird flu, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation.
The findings were discovered on Friday.
News 12 first reported Town of Thornwood officials said the birds were found on Feb. 2 and were removed by a wildlife expert for further testing.
Caroll Park was closed until further notice as well.
A few geese were seen swimming in the pond late Wednesday night, but officials emphasized that people should not flock to the park as the birds did.
Officials noted any dead birds found on private property in the town should be reported to the Department of Environmental Conservation.
