Manchester and Upper Township approved measures Monday night restricting the facilities, adding to a growing list of municipalities taking action.

Advocates say at least 90 communities across New Jersey have now adopted some form of restriction on data centers.

Supporters of the local measures cite concerns about energy use, water consumption, noise and quality-of-life impacts.

Advocacy groups say they plan to continue pushing for a statewide moratorium on new data center development.

Gov. Mikie Sherrill has so far resisted calls for a statewide ban.

Meanwhile, the Linden City Council is expected to take up its own potential data center ban at Tuesday night's meeting.

Council members are considering an ordinance that would prohibit data centers in all zoning districts throughout the city.

Linden officials say the proposal is aimed at protecting residents from noise and environmental concerns associated with the facilities.
