Engineers have now determined there’s no structural damage to a dam in Salisbury Mills that was found to be
leaking this week, according to Orange County officials.
They say a buildup of ice at Beaver Dam Lake caused several leaks that were discovered on Monday impacting existing drainage holes.
Steps were taken to break up the ice and the amount of water flowing through relief valves has since slowed down, officials say.
“We are very confident at this point that there’s no compromise to the structure whatsoever. This is the way it was designed,” says Orange County Department of Public Works Commissioner Erik Denega, following several inspections by senior engineers.
Denega says officials will continue to monitor the dam but that an advisory notifying the public of the situation has been lifted. He says the county plans to install an “ice reduction” system by next winter.
