Crown Heights apartment fire leaves 1 person in critical condition
An apartment fire in Crown Heights left one person in critical condition, the FDNY says.
Firefighters responded to the Sterling Place building around 10:48 a.m. The third-floor fire was placed under control by 11:26 a.m.
News 12 spoke with a resident at the scene who wanted to remain anonymous.
“I heard someone screaming fire, so I literally just grabbed the baby. I tried to go through the front door, but it was just too much smoke. So, I literally just had to run to the fire escape to try to get that open and just signal the people in the courtyard. There was a gentleman, and he was really nice. He came up helping with the baby and then the firefighters came and helped us down," she said.
The FDNY says the person injured was taken to Brookdale University Hospital.
The American Red Cross says it registered two people for emergency assistance.
