A fire broke out at a multifamily home in Mount Vernon on Thursday.

Several families are believed to live inside the two-story home, located on the 100 block of S 8th Avenue.

Officials say there is major damage to the house, but there are no reports of injuries.

Residents say work was being done on the roof when the fire started.

While the cause is under investigation, it is currently believed to be accidental.

There is no word if families are displaced.
