A large fire at a warehouse in Central Islip brought a massive emergency response Wednesday, with crews battling flames for hours at 250 Creative Drive.
Central Islip Fire Department Chief Joseph Vereline said 125 firefighters from more than a dozen departments responded to the scene. While the majority of the fire has been contained, crews are still working to extinguish hot spots burning inside the building.
Fire officials told News 12 the call came in shortly after 10 a.m. at the warehouse, which specializes in bath products. Construction workers were inside at the time the fire broke out, but no injuries have been reported as of yet
A total of 17 fire departments assisted in the response, which Vereline described as a reflection of how stubborn the fire has been.
“This is going to be a long operation," Vereline said. "We have a lot of collaborative help from our neighboring departments that are assisting us with this, but we’re gonna be in here for the long haul."
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Suffolk County Arson Squad. Crews remained on scene working to fully extinguish the fire.
