Coworkers and friends of Charles Iroh gathered at P.S. 23 Charles G. Woodson school Friday night to honor him.
As News 12 previously reported, the 30-year-old was fatally stabbed in July.
Many of his coworkers say the school community found out the news when they returned to school.
Alyssa Thousand, Charles’ coworker says the community is mourning.
“The kids were devastated; Charles was their everything. His doors were always open he was a safe space to these kids,” said Thousand.
Thousand says he was one of a kind.
“He was a brother, a mentor, he loved the kids. That’s who he was a great man and his life was taken away from him we can’t get that back,” said Thousand.
His friends tell News 12 he was killed a month before his birthday and just months before his baby girl was due. Destiny Mercado, a coworker says he was excited.
“All he ever wanted was to be a dad. He wanted to be a father to a little girl. And he was going to get that, he was going to get his wish,” said Mercado. “We need justice. His family needs justice. We need answers,” said Mercado.
