The Westchester County Medical Examiner ruled the death of the 79-year-old Yonkers woman found dead in her apartment as a homicide.
A county spokesperson confirmed the victim’s name as Constance Patrono.
The case was ruled a homicide following an autopsy that determined Patrono died from blunt force injuries to the head and chest and sharp force injuries to the abdomen, flanks and neck.
Mayor Mike Spano told News 12 on Friday that it's believed that Patrono knew her killer.
Earlier this month, Yonkers police told News 12 they were called to the complex on Bronx River Road about a person who died. When the police arrived, they say they found the woman dead inside her apartment in building number 828.
Investigators say their response began as a routine investigation for a person who died in what they call an "unattended death." They say further investigation revealed that it was consistent with an assault.
The building's superintendent says he was the one who found the woman's body.
Police were there for days investigating.
As News 12 has previously reported, Patrono was a psychologist and lived in the building for years.
"YPD has a full-on investigation. They have had police officers there both in uniform and not in uniform," says Spano.
No arrests have been made yet.
Yonkers police told News 12 that no additional information would be released at this time.
