Kevin Riley wants to keep his role as District 12's council member. He has held the role for the past four years after winning in a special election in late 2020. That followed former Council Member Andy King's dismissal from council due to ethics and harassment allegations.
Riley told News 12 he's proud of the capital investments made for the community during his administration. He spoke about expanding technology programming for youth and seniors, as well as creating intergenerational connections at places like the YMCA.
When asked what community issues Riley will address if reelected, he said, "Some of the issues that we're seeing here in the 12th District is our public safety. Recently, we have an uptick in crime when it comes to our young people."
Riley is calling for more police and programming that can help prevent crime.
He also said he wants to expand transportation options and improve corridors, like White Plains Road.
"White Plains Road for decades has been an eyesore for this community when it comes to public safety, sanitation, or even having access to resources for our small businesses over there," Riley said. He hopes to not just clean up the area, but engage with the community in ways that will help permanently improve the area.
The council member said he values monthly community meetings, where people get their voices heard and he works to turn their concerns into solutions.
When asked why people should vote for him instead of his opponent, Riley said, "I think people should choose me over my opponent because I've been trustworthy, I've been very accountable and I've been transparent since I've been in office."
Early voting begins June 14.
