Long-awaited repairs are finally getting underway on a massive, disruptive crack in the middle of a major Middlesex County roadway.
Work is officially set to begin on the severe road damage along Smith Street in Woodbridge. The issue dates all the way back to September, leaving local drivers dealing with the fallout for months.
The structural failure is said to have been caused by nearby warehouse construction, which compromised the integrity of the roadway.
Fixing the crater-like split wasn't as simple as pouring fresh asphalt. It required months of rigorous safety testing and extensive stabilization work just to ensure the ground was secure enough for heavy repair equipment to move in.
With the foundational stabilization phase finally complete, crews are transitioning to the next major phase of the project.
Drivers in the area should prepare for continued closures or shifts in traffic patterns, as crews will now be performing extensive utility work through July to fully repair the infrastructure.
