Connecticut's Sales Tax-Free Week begins Sunday, giving shoppers a break on back-to-school purchases.
Most clothing and footwear items under $100 will be exempt from sales tax through Aug. 23.
Annette Norton, owner of Saavy and Grace in Westport, said her store sees a 20% increase in business during the week.
"To shop local, if you want to be able to do that, it's more than just getting your product, it's an experience," Norton said. "It's trying things on, it's getting service, it's people recognizing you and being so appreciative that you're there. I think it's the whole package."
The state is encouraging residents to shop local, saying every dollar spent supports neighborhoods and communities.
