A Westchester County judge has sentenced a Connecticut contractor to one year of conditional discharge in the 2021 trench death of a laborer.

Michael Conway pleaded guilty to second-degree reckless endangerment last February after a worker at a Mamaroneck construction site was buried alive inside an unprotected 9-foot trench.

As part of his sentence, Conway had to complete 150 hours of community service.

Prosecutors earlier this month said Conway had not fulfilled the hours and moved for sentencing.

At that time, County Court Judge Maurice Williams granted Conway an extension.

Williams said Conway has now completed those hours, but hoped he'd learned his lesson.

"Somebody lost their life under tragic circumstances. families were hurt, communities were torn apart as a result of what happened," said Westchester County Court Judge Maurice Williams.

Conway must stay out of trouble for one year to avoid further penalties.

Conway declined to comment.
