It's National Pizza week – and that's a big deal here in Connecticut.
Last year, Gov. Ned Lamont declared New Haven “the Pizza Capital of America” and held up the proclamation to loud cheers.
Connecticut has nearly 1,200 pizza places. Pizza Today named Modern Apizza as Pizzeria of the Year in 2023.
A recent survey says that 21% of people picked pizza as their favorite food. Second place was hamburgers at 13%.
On top of that, Connecticut residents search for the term "pizza" more than any other state, according to Google data.
Dave Kuban has been in the pizza business for 25 years. He makes all different types of pies at Planet Pizza in Norwalk. Kuban told News 12 Connecticut what makes a great pizza.
"Product, distributor, passion and love," said Kuban.
Kuban says he goes through 60 gallons of sauce every three days and eight cases of cheese every two days.
National Pizza Week runs through Saturday.
