A popular Rockland County hiking destination is moving closer to a full reopening.
Town of Clarkstown officials announced repair work has begun on the Congers Lake Trailway, where a section between markers 47 and 54 has been closed since April due to several support pilings separating from the boardwalk decking.
Town engineers spent the summer developing a construction plan and securing approvals from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation before the project went out to bid. Crews began work this week, adding new supports beneath the boardwalk decking.
Officials said the contractor has a 30-day timeline to complete the repairs, with the project expected to be finished by mid-November. Once complete, visitors will once again be able to make a full loop around Congers Lake using the trailway.
