It was a rough start to one of the busiest travel days of the year in the Hudson Valley. A wintry mix brought some difficult driving conditions to the area Tuesday morning.
"It's been very icy, very slippery," a Westchester County driver told News 12.
Drivers say the main issue they came across were slushy spots on the roads from the wintry mix. DPW crews around the area were out in full force.
In Yonkers, officials with the DPW say they started preparing for the weather on Monday.
"We brined almost the entire city, it helps prevent the snow from sticking on to the asphalt," says DPW Commissioner Thomas Meier.
Some drivers told News 12 that the icy weather came at a bad time amid the holiday rush. Others said they welcome it this time of year.
"You know what? Tis' the season. It should be snowing," said Clara, who lives in Yonkers.
Even though conditions have improved, officials urge drivers to always be careful.
