New information has come out on a manhole explosion that happened
last Friday on Chatsworth Avenue in Larchmont.
An official with Con Ed sent News 12 this update on Thursday:
"Crews are expected to complete work to repair and replace damaged underground cables, as well as places that transition to overhead lines. We will complete testing in the area tonight," the official stated.
Officers initially responded to the area for reports of smoke coming from multiple manholes. One of those manholes ended up exploding, according to officials at the scene.
Two police officers were hurt. News 12 was told one of them returned to work earlier this week. The other is returning on Friday.
People who live and work in the area said they heard and felt the explosion. Some say they briefly lost power.
"The whole building shook, like literally shook," said Prem, who works in the area.
There's still no word on what caused the explosion.
Emergency crews initially told News 12 that Con Edison was investigating possible underground electrical issues.
