The Wantagh community is coming together to help one of their own.
A fundraiser was held Thursday night at Mulcahy’s in Wantagh to benefit 11-year-old Gia Byrne and her family.
Gia was diagnosed with severe autism at 18 months of age. The fundraiser is to help pay for stem cell treatment, which is not covered by insurance. The family is also hoping to buy Gia a special bed that would keep her calm at night.
The fundraiser was organized by the John Theissen Children’s Foundation, which supports sick and underprivileged children.
