Cleanup continued on Webster Avenue in Bedford Park as Thursday marked 10 days since a massive water main break left people without electricity, gas and other essentials in the midst of the holiday season.

Restoration crews continued to fill dumpsters of debris and clean out basement and ground level apartments that were flooded on Dec. 16.

Kendrick Wiggan lives on Webster Avenue. His apartment has been without gas since. Wiggan said he has been relying on hot meals from the American Red Cross in order to eat.

"I can't cook my own food. I was so glad that they came so that I could get something to eat," Wiggan said.

His building has installed a mobile broiler in order for tenants to have access to heat and hot water.

The American Red Cross is purchasing hot meals from restaurants in the area for tenants in need.

"We've been going into the buildings as well so that people know we have food here," said Jean-Thomas Candio, of the American Red Cross.

Officials say the water main that erupted was from the 1890s. It flooded businesses, cars and apartments - spanning several blocks along Webster Avenue.

The Red Cross says it will be on the corner of Botanical Square and Webster Avenue through the weekend. They plan to reassess the need and will decide if services will be extended on Sunday.
