You videos just like this one of how powerful the storm was across Long Island. Another area hit hard, the town of Hempstead. And joining us now to talk about the cleanup, Hempstead Town Supervisor John Ferretti. John, thanks for joining us. Early this morning. I was watching some of the video of the 5 Towns area last night. Real impacts there. Is there anything that's lingering this morning? Yeah, well, good morning, Erin. Good morning, Rich. There is the 5 towns got hit, uh, the hardest, I would say out of anywhere in the town of Hempstead. People saw yesterday afternoon, the amount of rain that we received. The 5 towns certainly got hit. Uh, they got anywhere between 2 and 2.5 inches of rainfall in the afternoon, and that continued really, uh, until about midnight, with rain. And then after that, uh, we had some pretty strong wind gusts. Of up to 50 MPH and with, as you can see in the pictures and videos you're showing, we still have leaves on the trees and that acts as sort of a sail when the wind hits them. So we had reported 32 downed trees throughout the night in the town of Hempstead. I'm happy to report thanks to our incredible highway department, they have all been taken off the streets, all of our town roads in the town of Hempstead. are now open for the commuters and um we're going to hope that we can continue to work with the community. Please report any down trees to Hempstead.com/storm so we can make sure later today all of our rights of way are cleared for our trick or treaters. OK, John Freddie, thank you so much. And you've been sending us videos just like that one from your communities and no part of the island was spared and joining us now is the Islip town supervisor Angie Carpenter. Angie, good morning. Thanks for joining us. You've seen the video, certainly you've seen a lot of this up close along the south shore. What was the impact there in Islip? Well, it's typical, you know, we have a lot of flood prone areas and, uh, they were flooded and our crews were out there working through the night pumping. Uh, they're out there checking all the roadways right now, all the roadways are passable, but they'll continue working all day clearing any debris that may still be lingering, um, you know, with our airport, the winds yesterday caused a lot of delays, uh, but I would just urge everyone who's flying today to check. It looks like everything is pretty much on schedule right now, but they should really plan on arriving at the airport 2 hours early. And speaking of the airport, you're saying it's fully staffed and everything with the shutdown, they're ready to go there other than the wind? Ready to go and uh with just uh an incredible attitude with everything that they're facing, the TSA and FAA workers have been absolutely extraordinary and we're very, very grateful for their dedication. With 17 nonstop destinations from the airport now, uh, it's a little busier than it had been. Uh, and we would just urge everyone to book their holiday fars now while they can get some bargains. That's good advice and, uh, busy is a good thing certainly for, uh, the health of the airport. There's so many of us rely upon it. Angie Carpenter, thanks so much. Thanks, Angie. Oh, thank you guys.
