Veteran Rodney Williams says he is now on Day 4 of a flooded kitchen that is disabling his ability to use his apartment cooking area.
Williams says he has made multiple calls to supers and management about the issue at 753 Classon Ave.
"They came by they took a look said they could not help because of construction going on, that the wet vacuum was broken," Williams says.
Williams says his apartment is not the only one with issues. He says a currently unoccupied unit next to his also has flooding, broken walls and exposed breaking pipes.
According to HPD, the building has had 243 open violations, as well as a vacate order that was issued for another unit in July following a fire.
Williams believes ongoing construction on the outside of the property to address some of those issues may have sparked his water issues but says they are far from new.
"This is not the first time the water has come in, but this is the longest it has stayed," Williams said.
News 12 reached out to the management office for 753 Classon Ave., which declined to identify the ownership group of the property, but said "We are doing everything in our power for affected residents."
Williams says he does not believe them.
"The problem is still here, it has not changed, and I do not know if it is going to be solved today, tomorrow, or if it is going to be solved," he said.
He adds that he worries about the state of the apartment after expected heavy rain later this week.
"It starts peeling, starts smelling , there's going to be mold, mildew and I'm not trying to be here when that happens," he says adding that the unit gets hard to breathe in after water gets in after storms.
He says he does not want to leave the apartment - one that belongs to his mother and family that has since passed, but says he is at his wit's end.
"I don' think I can stick around anymore if this keeps on," he said.
News 12 reached out to HPD to see if this latest incident had been reported and if it is investigating the building for any additional structural issues. It has not heard back yet.
