City officials highlight Black-owned businesses this Black History Month, aiming to support struggling small enterprises and encourage new growth in neighborhoods like Flatlands and Flatbush.

Amid economic challenges, many established businesses have closed while new ventures continue to emerge. A city tour—strategically scheduled for Black History Month—brought the Department of Small Business Services commissioner face-to-face with local entrepreneurs.

“It’s important to have the commissioner out here to meet our Black-owned and women-owned business,” said Council Member Farah Louis, who helped arrange the visit.

The initiative also includes consultations to help owners track expenses and make informed decisions as inflation pressures persist. City leaders say thriving local businesses are essential to keeping communities vibrant and resilient.
