Residents at Laurelwood Senior Apartments - an 11-story building on the West End of Bridgeport - say it has a reputation for being one of the nicer senior communities in the city.
There's only problem.
"The two elevators here are constantly going down, which leaves us either stranded in our apartments or having to walk up the stairs," said Kathleen Hammill.
That's not easy for Carlos Cores, a 70-year-old grandfather who is disabled.
"It's a nightmare, to be honest," Cores said.
Residents say the chronic outages go back years, with both of the building's elevators sometimes going down at once, which occurred over the weekend.
"It's really, really bad. We miss doctor's appointments; we can't go shopping. It's unsafe," Cores said.
"God forbid a guy on the 11th floor has a heart attack. He'd be dead by the time paramedics get to him," he said.
The owner of the complex did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
