Residents on Ronwood Road in Chestnut Ridge expressed their frustrations following heavy rains and floods that damaged property.

Many say this is not the first time.

On Tuesday, litter and debris congesting waterways and scattering throughout lawns laid out in the sun following Monday nights severe rain storms.

The rain caused multiple houses' properties to flood, which many agree is due to the combination of the hilly street and a brook which overflows each time it rains.

"It's damaging. It leaks into our homes, into our basements. It brings debris from the New Jersey side, I guess," said Gabriel Rosin, whose house's property lays adjacent to the brook.

Rosin added that once the brook overflows, it creates mass flooding which travels to nearby neighbor's homes, such as his neighbor, Linda Weiss.

Weiss and her family built a 2-foot concrete wall to protect her pool area from flood waters.

During Monday night's floods, the water rushed over the barrier, filling her pool with various debris.

"It's costing us thousands of dollars not just once or twice; they need to come three times to clean out the pool. All the garbage, the whole neighborhood is coming into us. All the mulch, tree limbs, get in there," said Weiss.

Rosin says he has tried to figure out who is in charge of maintaining the waterway, but still does not have a clear answer.

News 12 contacted both Rockland County and the Town of Ramapo, which both said they do not regulate the waterway.

The Village of Chestnut Ridge responded by saying "no comment."

"Hopefully, someone can find a solution for this so we don't need to keep running around the house looking at how high it is...how long the storm is going to last, because that is really what gets us nervous," said Weiss.
