A plan has been approved to bring charter schools to two more Long Island communities.
As News 12 has reported, Academy Charter proposed bringing an elementary school and middle school to Brentwood and a high school to Central Islip.
The decision comes following a vote from the SUNY Charter Schools Institute.
The proposals have faced criticism from residents in both school districts.
The Brentwood School District superintendent tells News 12 they're disappointed with the move.
Brentwood officials have said a charter school could cost the district $100 million in funding.
Central Islip's superintendent says they are extremely disappointed, but they understand it's up to the parents to decide which education is best for their kids. The Brentwood schools are set to open next fall, while Central Islip's is slated for 2027.
