For 41 high school seniors in Central Islip, the path to college just became a bit more affordable.
During a heartwarming ceremony, students from Central Islip High School were awarded nearly $90,000 in scholarships, thanks to the efforts of the Central Islip Teachers Association and generous community donations.
The scholarships, which recognized academic excellence, ranged from $500 to $12,500.
Jennifer Cicero, of the Central Islip Teachers Association, emphasized the students' dedication.
“They work so hard. They are so talented and so smart. They deserve every cent of it,” she said.
Kamille Williams received the largest scholarship of $12,500, while Indigo Ho Sang earned a $10,000 award. Both expressed gratitude and excitement about how the funds will help them achieve their educational goals.
“I’m going to major in nursing. This will help with housing and everything, and I’m so grateful,” said Ho Sang. Williams added, “It feels amazing. I was not expecting that at all, and it’s good to know all my hard work paid off.”
The 41 recipients were selected from a pool of over 150 eligible students.
