A Central Islip High School football player is being honored for his leadership.

Jimmy Gaston Jr. just received the Thomas Cutinella Leadership Award.

Gaston Jr. was a team captain and an All-County selection this season.

The senior player also earned a spot on the Long Island Top 100 Football Players.

The leadership award is in memory of Shoreham-Wading River's Thomas Cutinella.

Thomas died in 2014 from a traumatic head injury after an on-field collision at football practice.
