A Brooklyn man says his older brother tried to kill him in broad daylight over a family dispute, chasing him down the street and firing several shots at him.
The terrifying encounter was captured on home surveillance video.
The victim, who goes by Jinx, said the shooting happened Saturday morning in front of a home on East 52rd Street in Flatlands, at a house he says he once bought to help his two older brothers get back on their feet.
“We exchanged words for less than 30 seconds, and he ends up pulling out a gun and starts shooting at me,” Jinx told News 12.
In the video, Jinx is seen jumping out of his SUV and running for his life as his brother chases him with a handgun. He says the titanium in his left leg slowed him down.
“I kind of knew that was the end,” he said. “But for some reason he just suddenly stopped and made a U-turn. It turns out, his gun jammed.”
Bullets struck Jinx’s vehicle, but he was unharmed. He says the violence stems from growing tensions over the house.
Jinx says he recently gave them a 90-day notice to leave so he could sell the property. He says they protested and stopped paying rent.
“My brothers have spent many years in prison,” he said. “The lives they chose are not the life I chose.”
Jinx says the relationship had been rocky for years, filled with periods of estrangement and reconciliation, but he never imagined it would end like this.
“I would’ve never imagined in a million years,” he said.
The suspect was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a black bookbag.
“He’s still out there. He still has his gun. And I’m in fear he’ll come back and finish the job,” Jinx said.
He’s urging the public to contact police if they see him, but with caution.
“He’s armed. He’s dangerous,” Jinx warned. “Just call 911.”
