Sick and starving cats are now fighting for their lives after the SPCA Westchester rescued 44 felines from what officials describe as unlivable and dangerous conditions inside a Greenburgh home.
The SPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement Unit says it received a disturbing call about animals in crisis. When officers and rescue coordinators entered the residence, they said they were met with filth, garbage, debris and a powerful ammonia smell.

They say many cats and kittens were suffering from untreated medical conditions. Some had eyes and noses crusted shut with blood and infection. One cat was even found dead.

Rescuers say most of the animals were terrified and hiding, unaware that help had arrived. While several were immediately rushed back to the SPCA for emergency veterinary treatment, others had to be humanely trapped because the conditions inside the home made it too dangerous to approach them directly.

Now, SPCA Westchester is asking the community to step in. The organization says caring for 44 sick cats requires extensive medical treatment, medication and around-the-clock support from its veterinary team.
