Three people are out of their home this morning after a fire in Jersey City.

Officials said flames started in the back of a multi-family home on Bowers Street last night before spreading to the roof of a church next door.

It took crews about an hour to put out the flames.

Two cats and several birds were rescued, and a firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor burns, officials said.

The Red Cross is helping those displaced.
