Who better to star as extras in a film about The Boss than people from Springsteen's home state? The company that recently handled casting for the new "Happy Gilmore" movie is once again seeking actors in the Garden State.
Grant Wilfley Casting is looking for talent to play "1980s types" in the upcoming biopic "Deliver Me From Nowhere." The film will delve into the making of Bruce Springsteen’s classic 1982 solo album "Nebraska" and is based on the book "Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska" by Warren Zanes. Springsteen fans may be familiar with the album for tracks such as "Atlantic City" and "My Father's House."
For the first round of filming, the casting company is looking for children ages 3-17 as well as adults "of all ages and ethnicities" for scenes set in the early 1980s. The scenes will be shot in Morris County on Nov. 22.
Additional filming will take place from Dec. 9-13 as well as Dec. 16 in Springsteen's most well-known New Jersey haunt - Asbury Park. Children ages 6-12 and adults are needed for scenes set in the 1950s and early 1980s. Grant Wilfley's listing states that prospective extras must be able to work in both interior and exterior settings, have no allergies to wool and "be ok working around atmospheric smoke." The gig pays $176 for 10 hours of work or $216 for 8 hours for SAG-AFTRA members. Transportation and hotel accommodations will not be provided.
Grant Wilfley is also looking for drivers with period cars from the 1960s and 70s up to 1981 to work at the Asbury Park shoot in December.
Those interested in starring as an extra should email husker@gwnyc.com and include name, contact information, whether or not they are SAG-AFTRA members, height, weight, clothing and shoe sizes and current, non-professional photos. Also include information on any tattoos and if you're local to New Jersey and available for the filming dates. Applicants with vintage cars must also include the make, model, year and color of the car along with photos. The scene location you're applying for should be in the subject line of the email.
As for nailing down the 1980s look, Grant Wilfley says for those scenes, men should have "longer, shag haircuts."
"Long rocker style is also great. No fades, buzz cuts or super short hair for men," the listing says.
For women, they're fine with any hair length but chin and shoulder length are ideal, especially layers, curly hair and perms.
Men looking to appear in the 1950s scenes should be ok with getting a haircut to match that time period.
According to Springsteen's official website, "Deliver Me From Nowhere" will be produced by 20th Century Studios and Disney. The film will star Emmy Award-winner Jeremy Allen White of the show "The Bear," and will be written and directed by Scott Cooper, known for "Crazy Heart."
