A Mantua man was arrested Monday after police say he stole a tow truck and then crashed it, injuring at least two people.
Washington Township police arrested Dylan Davis, 27, after responding to reports of a motor vehicle crash at Delsea Drive and Salina Road around 1:49 p.m. When police arrived, they learned that a tow truck operator had stopped near a Dollar General store on Delsea Drive to load a vehicle onto his flatbed. While he was securing the vehicle, a man later identified as Davis climbed into the truck and drove away erratically, causing the tow truck driver to fall from the vehicle and sustain injuries.
According to police, Davis then drove into oncoming traffic, hitting two other vehicles head-on before fleeing the scene on foot. The drivers of the vehicles were both injured and transported to a local hospital.
Police caught up to Davis and placed him under arrest.
"Based on observations at the scene, officers suspected Davis was under the influence," police said.
A search warrant was obtained for a blood test to determine potential intoxication. He was subsequently charged with carjacking, motor vehicle theft, assault by auto and driving while intoxicated.
