Police are still trying to determine how a vehicle ended up in a pond in Piscataway Tuesday night. The incident happened around 8 p.m. at New Market Pond off Lakeview Avenue. The pond is located at the end of Columbus Park Lake. Firefighters arriving at the scene reported that the car was “in the middle of the lake” with the occupant still inside. Authorities told News 12 that the driver was successfully removed from the vehicle during rescue operations, which included rescue boats. No injuries were reported. Police are still working to determine how the vehicle ended up in the water. A broken fence could be seen near the pond in Columbus Park, although it’s not yet clear if it’s related to the crash.
