As Westchester County braces for even more snow, families say the emotional toll of back-to-back winter storms is beginning to build.
In Hastings-on-Hudson, piles of snow have grown higher with each round of ice and accumulation — mirroring what some describe as layers of frustration at home.
“It hampers our movement. It makes activity harder, and that’s going to have an effect on all of us,” said Dr. Timothy Sullivan, a psychiatrist with Northwell Health.
Sullivan says being cut off from daily routines and regular social interaction can take a real toll on both adults and children. He advises parents to maintain structure as much as possible — keeping consistent wake-up times and regular meals.
Jennifer Wege of Bedford Hills, a mom of twin 11-year-olds, says it’s been a challenge following winter break and now multiple snow days.
“Kids are just on the devices way too long and they need a detox from that,” she said.
Experts say setting small goals and encouraging real-world accomplishments can help ease the stress until the snow finally melts.
