The Brooklyn Youth Chorus celebrated its spring gala performance on Thursday.
The Grammy Award-winning group performed “Port-al”, a site- specific production that explores the history of the Brooklyn Navy Yard and other port cities.
"This is the world premiere,” said Megan Lemley, executive director of the Brooklyn Youth Chorus. “It's very exciting. All the different movements that have happened here, women coming into the workforce, Black Americans coming into the workforce, and they wanted to bring it to life. And so, they're sort of telling these oral histories through song."
Thursday marked the first night of performances.
The show will be performed again today and Saturday.
