A 60-year-old Brooklyn woman tells News12 she’s been getting sick, just by living in her own apartment.
Ana Martinez has lived in NYCHA’S Tompkin Houses for 30 years.
She says water leakage, broken light fixtures and no heat for months at a time are some of the issues she’s had over the years.
Martinez says a recent flood in her apartment left behind exposure to mold and asbestos and has had an impact on her health.
News 12 reached out to NYCHA to ask when they plan to make repairs.
A spokesperson said, "NYCHA staff recently performed a temporary repair to address a leak affecting this unit, and are in the process of assigning plumbers to conduct a permanent repair. We will continue to work with the resident to address the leak and any mold concerns until we reach a satisfactory solution. Residents in need of assistance are encouraged to call the Customer Contact Center at 718-707-7771 or submit work tickets through the MyNYCHA application."
