Brooklyn residents flocked to city pools on Thursday to beat the extreme heat. At McCarren Park Pool in Greenpoint, some people waited more than an hour in a long line that wrapped around the corner, to get inside the pool.

With the extreme heat warning in effect, city and state officials urge New Yorkers to find ways to stay cool.

Public pool hours have been extended until 8:30pm during the heat emergency.
