"Bike Plant" is making a big impact in the heart of Bed-Stuy.
The soon-to-be worker-owned shop has raised more than $42,000 in donated bikes and repair services for low-income New Yorkers.
The mission is simple: make biking accessible and affordable for everyone.
From free air pumps to pay-what-you-can repairs, Bike Plant has become a trusted community resource for those who might not otherwise be able to afford bike maintenance or even a bike itself.
"It's just amazing to be like a conduit for a community that wants to support their neighbors," said Robin Graven-Milne, owner and founder of Bike Plant. "We can’t do everything, but being able to fix bikes is really rewarding—it’s immediately helpful in a very real way."
The shop runs on donations, volunteer support, and its annual bike race and barbecue fundraiser, all of which help sustain its community repair fund.
