Brookdale Hospital patients deal with no AC during extreme heat

Patients say the building's AC unit has been broken for days, and that all they can feel is trapped heat.

A waiting room to hell - that's what patients are calling a Brownsville hospital experience this week, with 100-degree temperatures.
Theres a heat wave in Brooklyn, and hundreds of thousands of Brooklyn residents are doing whatever they can to stay cool with these scorching temperatures. For patients at the Brookdale Hospital, staying cool means waiting outside, with the sun beaming down on them.
"It's worse in there then it is out here, to be honest with you...We get a little breeze out here," said Shada Wright, whose son was checked into the hospital. "It feels like death in there."
Patients say the building's AC unit has been broken for days, and that all they can feel is trapped heat.
The city's Office of Emergency Management say they're aware of the reports and that OEM is "Closely coordinating with health agencies and hospital partners."
Brookdale Hospital says it has implemented measures to circulate cool air by installing portable AC units and fans.
Still, patients are complaining of discomfort with no end in sight. One patient told News 12 he felt lightheaded and dizzy while waiting to be called for his appointment.
