The shutters are down at Vivero Live Poultry Farm in The Bronx amid the growing cases of the bird flu in New York City. This market is among several other
live poultry markets forced to temporarilyshut down to stop the spread.
According to Gov. Kathy Hochul, the markets must sell all healthy birds by today, and no inventory can be delivered for the next week.
This action comes after seven cases of bird flu were found in The Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens.
News 12 reached out to the New York State Health Department to learn more about the other live markets that were affected, we have yet to hear back at this hour.
One man said to News 12 he is worried about the outbreak and is hopeful that this shut down will stop the spread.
After extensive cleaning and sanitation over the next five days. The poultry markets will be inspected by the health department and if they pass, they will be allowed to reopen on Feb. 14.
